Spring ISD’s very own Central Office Biggest Loser Weight Loss Competition, held Feb. 1 to March 3, invited Central Office Staff members to sign up either individually or as members of a department team to compete in a friendly contest focused on healthy weight loss and improved overall health and wellness.
It was the district’s first time hosting the Biggest Loser Competition. Participants weighed in weekly, beginning on the first day of the contest, and the event ended with 76 staff participants collectively losing 448.8 pounds over the course of the month-long event.
Top winners include the following, measured by weight lost as a percentage of total starting weight:
Team Competition Champion:
- Team Name: “Fantastic Four” (Distribution Services)
Team Members: Nicole Barnett, Michaela Roberson, Carolyn Sarpy, Jeremy Vanderburg
Team total weight loss: 5.65%
Team Competition Honorable Mentions:
- Team “2 Fit 2 Quit” (Child Nutrition), with a team total weight loss of 5.50%
- Team “50+ Club” (Vending), with a team total weight loss of 4.43%
Individual Competition Champion:
- Daniel Isaacks (Technology), with a total weight loss of 11.2%
Individual Competition Honorable Mentions:
- Joe Hernandez (Technology), with a total weight loss of 10.2%
- Cory Davis (Distribution Services), with a total weight loss of 9.3%
The Child Nutrition Team “2 Fit 2 Quit” also highlighted their top Biggest Loser Competition performer, Alex Bustamante, who had a personal weight loss of 8.4% over the course of the competition.
“We seek to encourage our staff to invest in their physical, mental, and emotional health,” Innovation Department TCLAS Program Director Deeone McKeithan wrote to participants in a message announcing the top winners and celebrating all of the participants’ progress. “I am super proud of all of those who participated and dedicated themselves to improving their overall health. This was an amazing and extremely close competition!”
McKeithan offered special thanks to the competition’s resident Zumba instructor, Veronica Hernandez, a physical education teacher and coach at Springwoods Village Middle School, who volunteered her time to help Biggest Loser Competition participants get moving and have fun while pursuing their fitness and wellness goals.
