Traditionally, adults are the ones teaching students a thing or two. However, at Dekaney High School’s cafeteria on Thursday evening, the roles were reversed as Spring ISD hosted its annual Gifted and Talented (GT) Expo. The student geniuses welcomed families, their fellow students, and staff to one of the district’s most anticipated academic showcases of the year. They say you learn something new everyday, and this day was no exception.

Spring ISD is making significant strides in upgrading schools and facilities thanks to the $850 million bond approved by voters in 2022. The bond supports much-needed facility upgrades, security enhancements, and infrastructure improvements across the district. Construction crews are working diligently to modernize classrooms, enhance safety, and create better learning environments for students and teachers. Every campus is benefiting from these transformative changes.

With a sense of anticipation in the air, nearly 300 young men from across Spring ISD stepped into Dekaney High School for the district’s 7th annual Boys’ Empowerment Summit. Hosted by the district’s Family and Community Engagement Department, the summit brought together middle and high school students for a day of mentorship, meaningful discussions, and engaging activities aimed at creating personal and academic success.

More than 350 young women in grades 6-12 kicked off Women’s History Month on March 1 for the Spring ISD Girls’ Empowerment and Leadership Summit at Dekaney High School, an event dedicated to preparing them for success in college, careers, and leadership roles.

Despite the chilly air and a steady February drizzle, the spirit of learning burned bright as more than 500 dedicated Spring ISD staff members came together for the 2025 Spring Learning Fair at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School on Feb. 22. Undeterred by the weather, educators from across the district gathered to explore fresh ideas, refine their skills, and exchange insights with fellow professionals.

Award medals shine brightly in the stage spotlights, dashiki adorned community members, and even in the dark ambiance lights of the theatre the smiles of proud students and parents alike couldn’t be more apparent. The STAR theater inside of Dekaney High School became the place to celebrate African American strength, culture and heritage. 

Each year, the Principal of the Year honor is awarded to one elementary and one secondary principal, chosen based on campus performance data, observations, student achievement, and input from district leaders and community members. As a part of tradition, both winners were surprised with the recognition at their respective schools.
