The Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved a resolution during the district’s regular board meeting to offer both a recruitment incentive for new teachers joining Spring ISD, and a one-time retention stipend that includes $2,000 and two wellness days in addition to an incentive for all current core content teachers for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.
The measure aims to thank teachers for their hard work throughout the challenges of the pandemic, as well as offer an incentive to retain current employees and recruit new teachers to the district. For current Spring ISD teachers, a retention monetary award will be offered based on years of service and performance level determined by the percent of students who reach or exceed student growth in the classroom, allowing Spring ISD to remain one of the most competitive districts in the Houston area for teachers.
“Our primary focus is to ensure that we recruit the best in education. We also want to let our teachers know that we value them and appreciate their commitment to our students. We want them to stay in Spring ISD,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “Not only are we offering a retention stipend to all of our teachers, but also additional wellness days to use at their discretion. I want to thank our Board of Trustees for their continuous support in these efforts to reward our own and for their support of our Human Resources team in recruiting the very best.”
Spring ISD will offer the following recruitment and retention incentives during the 2022-23 school year:
- Recruitment Incentive: Core Content Teachers who have a track record of measured growth in the classroom, or out-of-state equivalent for teachers recruited outside of Texas
- 1-2 Years: $2,000
- 3-5 Years: $3,500
- 6+ Years: $5,000
- Retention Incentive: A retention stipend payment of $2,000 and 2 wellness days will be available to all current teachers, in addition to an incentive based on years of experience and a track record of measured growth in the classroom
- 1-2 Years: $2,000
- 3-5 Years: $3,500
- 6+ Years: $5,000
